The WBC Board of Governors has approved the fight between Fernando Vargas and Francisco Javier Castillejo, which will take place on August 20, as a final eliminator to determine the official challenger for the WBC's super welterweight title. The Board also decided that the winner of the August 13 bout Ricardo Mayorga and Michele Piccirillo for the vacant title must make his first title defense against the official challenger. The new champion will not be allowed to make any other optional defense

Former welterweight champion Ricardo Mayorga will return to the ring July 23rd in New York City at Madison Square Garden when he takes on WBC Junior Middleweight title-holder Javier Castillejo it was learned today. Mayorga has not fought since losing an epic brawl with Felix Trinidad last October also at the Garden. He was originally supposed to fight Alejando Garcia May 21st on the Andrew Golota-Lamon Brewster undercard but pulled out for personal reasons...

Former unified welterweight world champion and formerly retired Ricardo Mayorga has apparently reconsidered his short and very brief retirement and will be fighting again. In Managua, Nicaragua local newspapers are announcing that "El Matador" Mayorga will be fighting the 16th of April in Chicago against Alex "Terra" Garcia (28-1) who formerly owned the WBA Super welterweight title.
