Unbeaten heavyweight and Olympic gold medalist Alexander Povetkin (21-0, 15 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Nicolai Firtha (19-8-1, 8 KOs). Povetkin pressed the action the entire fight and was a clear winner, but Firtha was competitive until the end. Scores were 98-92, 100-90, 99-91. Originally Arena Box-Promotion had planned to present heavyweight sensation Odlanier Solis in the USA on May 17th, 2008 but the Cuban Olympic gold medallist was denied a visa. Now Arena's attorneys have tried again to get "La Sombra" into the US but the Consulate in Berlin denied the application again. Apparently the US authorities presume the three-time world amateur champion could stay in Miami like his fellow defectors

The European Boxing Union has officially announced Sinan Samil Sam (29-4-0) and Matt Skelton (21-2-0) as fighting for the vacant European heavyweight championship. Krasniqi had been ordered to fight a rematch versus Hoffmann (the pair battled to a twelve-round draw five months ago) but asked for a delay. When the delay was not granted Krasniqi ignored the deadline - and the European governing body eventually vacated the title. Now Hoffmann will be matched versus former British ruler Michael Sprott (27-7; 14KOs) and Sauerland Event's CEO Chris Meyer told FightNews that he is currently negotiating in order to stage the fight on June 11 in Kempten, Germany.
