I'm going to fight in May and then I'm coming right back in June or July," stated Toney, who also informed us that Sergei Liakhovich and Vassiliy Jirov were both asking for too much money to bring those previous discussions to fruition

James Toney looks sharp in a suit and he's quick with a good line—or an outrageous one. Can the 38-year-old heavyweight look quick and sharp in the ring after two losses to Samuel Peter? No surprise, the relentlessly outspoken Michigander believes he can and will. Toney, in San Jose, Calif., for a March 29 fight card says it's not more of his (in)famous talk

Samuel Peter never liked the idea of fighting James Toney again, insisting that he clearly beat him the first time around. After what happened Saturday night in their second fight, Toney might not want another rematch. Peter beat Toney for the second time in three months Saturday night, getting a unanimous decision in a WBC heavyweight elimination bout and perhaps the chance to fight Oleg Maskaev for a championship.

Everyone who was anyone has since claimed a part of the richest prize in sport, though no one has won (or looked good) consistently. There have been partial title claimants, unified title claimants, former champions and a few John Ruiz comebacks. Regardless, the important fights haven't been made and the sport has been the worse for it. It's generally a poor state of affairs when a mainstream fan can not name the heavyweight boxing champion of the

He didn't get one, instead he got a 115-113, 116-112, 116-112 points decision after another dreary 12 rounds which would have done nothing whatsoever for his already poor reputation amongst hardcore fans.

In addition, and perhaps more importantly, his April 30 WBA title-winning victory over John Ruiz has been changed to a No Decision. While the implications of this decision are not known, the most likely scenario will see the title returned to Ruiz outright. Toney will apparently be re-tested after his 90-day suspension is served.
