WBC super welterweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (38-0-1, 28 KOs) scored a sixth round TKO over Alfonso Gomez (23-5-2, 12 KOs) on Saturday night at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, Calif. Canelo knocked down the former “Contender” star with a jab late in round one, but Gomez was more embarrassed than hurt. Gomez held his own until round six when referee Wayne Hedgepeth suddenly stopped the fight after a Alvarez barrage. Gomez still had some fight in him. Time was 2:36
