Making his debut in a U.S. ring, IBF welterweight champion Jan Zaveck (31-2, 18 KOs) was dethroned by former WBC champ Andre Berto (28-1, 21 KOs) via fifth round TKO on Saturday night at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. In a hard fight, Berto, who moved straight to another title shot after losing his WBC belt to Victor Ortiz, was victorious after Zaveck suffered a bad cut over the right eye in round five. The bout was stopped between rounds five and six because of the condition of Zaveck’s eye.

Unbeaten featherweight Gary Russell Jr. (18-0, 10 KOs) scored a one-sided eight round unanimous decision over Leonilo Miranda (32-4, 30 KOs). Scores were 80-72, 80-72, 79-72. Miranda had no answer for Russell’s speed.

Unbeaten IBO super middleweight champion Thomas Oosthuizen (16-0-1, 11 KOs) dropped Aaron Pryor, Jr. (16-4, 11 KOs) in round three and went on to defend his belt by scores of 117-111 on all cards.

IBF #2 rated welterweight Randall Bailey (42-7, 36 KOs) won a mostly uneventful ten round unanimous decision over Yoryi Estrella (10-6-2, 7 KOs). Bailey scored a knockdown in the fifth round with an uppercut on the way to a 100-89, 100-89, 98-91 verdict. The IBF’s mandatory challenger, Bailey stepped aside to allow stablemate Andre Berto challenge IBF champion Zan Zaveck in tonight’s main event. Bailey will face the winner.
