Former four time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield (44-10-2, 29KOs) has issued his request to fight the WBA's new "regular" champion Alexander Povetkin in the fall. Holyfield sat ringside at Erfurt, Germany on Saturday night and watched Povetkin win a twelve round decision over Ruslan Chagaev to capture the title. Once the decision was announced, Holyfield, 48-years-old, entered the ring to give his congrats to the new champion and the two of them posed for photos.

Holyfield came to the post-fight press conference and told international reporters that Povetkin, because of his new title, was a good option for his next return. Holyfield wants to fight against in the fall, but it's not clear if Povetkin is going to defend his title before early 2012. The availability of television dates could force a 2012 return for Povetkin.

"I think he's a good fighter. Like I've alway said, my goal is to become the world champion again. Alexander is a possible option,' Holyfield said.
