Pornsawan dethrones Rachman

2 Aug 2011 16:43       hits 1793 Print version

Not only did he not receive a hometown decision, WBA mini-flyweight champion Muhammad Rachman was seemingly robbed in front of his supporters at Indosiar Studio, Jakarta, Indonesia on Saturday. Fighting with an excellent counter-punching strategy, Rachman (64-11-5, 33 KOs) landed many more clean power punches, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Pornsawan Porpramook of Thailand (23-3-1, 16 KOs). During the full twelve rounds, Rachman landed many punches to his opponent’s head and body, while Porpramook’s blows were mostly blocked by Rachman’s double cover, shoulders and arms, otherwise just air. Rachman’s counter punching strategy apparently couldn’t be easily understood by the judges, as they seemed to rewarded Porpramook’s aggressiveness and durability during 12 rounds, even though it was totally ineffective aggression.

Porpramook applied pressure during the whole twelve rounds, but a vast majority of his punches did not land. Somehow Sylvestre Abainza scored the bout 114-114, Takeshi Shimakawa 113-115 and Wan So Yuh 113-114 for the majority decision victory of the new champion Pornsawan Porpramook of Thailand.

“Porpramook couldn’t hit me at all. He only hit my gloves, arms and shoulders, how come he won?” sobbed Rachman after the fight. “I can’t accept this, and I will prepare my strong protest to the authorized persons about tonight’s result,” said Rachman in tears. “I fight here in Indonesia, my country, and I’m robbed at my own home and in front of my people!” Rachman’s supporters also expressed their rage around the ring and asking the explanation for such a controversial decision, but the security quickly secured the area and cancelled some remaining undercard bouts.

Earlier, southpaw Ali Rochmad (17-1, 12 KOs), destroyed Thailand’s Petchtrang Sor Yupinda (7-2, 4 KOs) in the first round with a full 10-count KO to win PABA super flyweight interim title. Yupindha was knocked down by Rochmad’s vicious uppercuts hitting Yupindha’s jaw.

Rachman, Sakreerin in tech draw!

...technical draw has happened in Indonesia, this time during the mini flyweight IBF title fight between champion Muhammad Rachman and his challenger Fahlan Sakreerin (IBF #6), following an unintentional head-butt in round three. The bout that was taking place in Rachman's birthplace Merauke City, Indonesia, was very dull in the first round, when both fighters studied one another. In round two, Rachman and Sakreerin started the attacks with credits for Rachman for his very aggressive pressure. In round three... read more ...
