The main event at the EWS Arena in Goeppingen, Germany, saw former cruiserweight world champion Firat Arslan capturing the IBF International and PABA belts against an outmatched Lubos Suda. The aggressive Arslan put the pressure on his opponent from the get-go and connected with good shots on the inside. Suda, who defeated the former champ eight years ago, was never able to fight Arslan off. The 40-years old German floored Suda twice in both the fourth and the fifth with body shots, forcing the referee to stop the bout. With the victory, Arslan moves to 31-5-1 with 20 knockouts. It was only his second fight since losing to Frenchman Steve Herelius in 2010 in a bid for the WBA interim cruiserweight title. He is now eyeing another crack at a world championship, his dream opponent being fellow German and WBO titlelist Marco Huck, who defends his belt tomorrow night against Hugo Hernan Garay in Munich. Arslan called Huck out numerous times in the past. Suda falls to 23-6-1.
In an upset, former world title challenger Khoren Gevor lost a really lackluster twelve round unanimous decision against unbeaten Nikola Sjekloca from Montenegro. The taller Sjekloca controlled the action from the outside, while Gevor had his moments when both combatants stood toe-to-toe. However, his attacks were mostly wild and he lacked accuracy and steam with his punches. There were lots of clinches and headbutts from Gevor. In the later rounds, Sjekloca faded a bit and gave Gevor room to connect more often. Still, after twelve, the judges were in agreement and scored the bout 116:112, 115:113 and 115:114 for Sjekloca, who kept his WBC International title at super middleweight and moves to 21-0. Gevor has now lost four out of his last five and falls to 31-7.
Heavyweight Erkan Teper had an easy night in Goeppingen against Croatian Jakov Gospic. The Arena prospect dominated the bout from the beginning and dropped his opponent once in the fourth and twice in the ninth before the referee stopped the action at 2:59 minutes of round nine. Despite winning rather easily, Teper does need some major improvement if he wants to make a name for himself. He moves to 6-0 with four knockouts. Gospic falls to 9-3.
Welterweight hope Selcuk Aydin scored a fifth round knockout over Raman Dzekhkanau on the undercard. The WBC silver champion is looking for a big fight later this year. He kept his perfect record intact and now stands at 22-0 with 17 stoppages.
Peter Zivkovic stopped Laszlo Szekeres in a welterweight bout in the opening round. Time was 1:37 minute. Zivkovic moves to 6-0 with five knockouts.
Timo Schwarzkopf scored a second round technical knockout over Yauheni Pashkelevich at the 147 pound limit. He is now 5-0 with four knockouts.
Cruiserweight Noel Gevor quickly disposed Vaclav Fiala in 1:38 minute. He is now 2-0 with one stoppage as a professional.
