Froch on His Ear Problem, Johnson Hurting To Make Weight

WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch believes his opponent on Saturday, Glen Johnson, is struggling to make the division limit of 168-pounds. Johnson has been fighting at light heavyweight for several years, but recently moved down, at age 42, to the super middleweight division for the sole purpose of entering the Super Six tournament. Saturday's fight in Atlantic City is a semi-final bout in the Super Six tourney.

"It was a little boost for me to see my opponent, Glen Johnson, running down the beach in this heat - with his tracksuit on, and sweating like a madman. He's obviously struggling at the weight and shedding some pounds. And that can be a decisive factor in terms of energy after five or six rounds. If he's training like this [on Thursday] and not eating and taking hydration out of his body - it could be a big problem for him on Saturday night," Froch said to BBC Radio.

Frcoh revealed that he entered a hospital on Thursday to clean out a blocked left eardrum. He says the minor ear problem won't be a factor in the fight.

"I just come out of the hospital. I had a blocked left eardrum from a couple of punches that I took. I think a bit of wax got pushed against the eardrum. I feel unblocked, clear headed and back in balance again. I feel [that I'm] in tip top shape and ready to do business on Saturday night," Froch said.

Carl Froch, Glen Johnson Post-Super Six Interviews

«He’s very tough and very durable. He’s one of those guys who, when you hit them, if you can imagine sort of sparring an oak tree, that’s the only way that I can put it into perspective. You hit him and he doesn’t move. He’s solid and he keeps coming forward. You don’t feel like you want to throw the hard, hurtful shots, you just want to pick you shots and sort of get through the round.» read more ...
