The former champion was covering up and failing to pull the trigger in return.

Jones was running the clock in the first minute of the ninth, moving but not throwing anything as Lebedec chased. Jones started picking his shots in the second minute and began to attack Lebedev to the head and body as the crowd erupted for a brief moment. Lebedev came right back to get Jones back against the ropes and continued to let his hands go. During the final ten seconds, Jones caught Lebedev with a perfect counter left hook to the jaw and the knees of the Russian boxer appeared to buckle as the arena stood up.

Jones was trying to steal the final round with quick punches as Lebedev moved in. It didn't take long for Lebedev to pin Jones against the ropes and unload his combinations. During an exchange, Jones landed a counter that made Lebedev stumble back into the ropes.
