In a crossroads clash of former world champions, former WBO junior welterweight champion Kendall Holt (27-4, 15 KOs) scored a spectacular third round KO over two-time IBF lightweight champion Julio Diaz (38-7, 27 KOs) on Friday night at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California. A hard left hook to the jaw put Diaz on his back. He beat the count, but the bout was waved off. Time was 2:37.
Unbeaten junior middleweight Jonathan Gonzalez moved to 13-0, 13 KOs with a seventh round TKO over Rudy Cisneros (12-3, 11 KOs). The bout was stopped at 1:50 of the seventh when Cisneros’ corner threw in the towel.
Super welterweight Jhon Ortega (5-0, 5 KO’s) remained unbeaten with a one-punch knockout over Marcus Thompkins in the fourth and final round. After controlling the action for most of the fight, Ortega dropped Thompkins (5-4-1, 2 KO’s) with a right hand to the head. Referee Ray Corona did not bother to count and waved the fight over at 27 seconds.
