Former IBF 105lb boss Muhammad Rachman (64-10-5,33 KOs) became the new WBA minimumweight titleholder as he stopped the now former champion Kwanthai Sithmorseng (31-1-1,17 KOs) in round nine on Tuesday at Bangkokthonburi University in Bangkok, Thailand. Previously, it seemed not so hard for the Thai fighter as he dropped the former IBF champ in round two and mostly gained the score except round five and six. But unexpectedly in round nine, the experienced Rachman reached his big opportunity when he landed a well-timed right hook following by vicious combinations which sent Kwanthai to the canvas. Not missing the chance, the Indonesian viciously hunted his foe and he successfully closed the show with a right bodyshot which destroyed Thai fighter for a full ten count at 1:29.
In other action, former WBA 122lb title holder Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym (44-2,30 KOs) scored a six round technical decision over Eric Barcelona (51-20-4,19 KOs) to capture the PABA 122lb title. An accidental headclash in round six rendered the Filipino unable to continue so the fight was sent to the scorecard which the Thai fighter comfortably leaded by 58-55, 59-54 and 59-54. Poonsawat is scheduled to challenge for the WBA crown again during the WBA annual convention in Bangkok this October.
