Junior welterweight Ruslan Provodnikov (19-1, 12 KOs) scored an eighth round TKO over previously-unbeaten Ivan Pococa (15-1-1, 10 KOs) at the Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, CA. It was all Provodnikov from the beginning as he slowly broke Popoca down throughout the fight. Provodnikov hurt Pococa in the fifth round, but Popoca showed heart and stayed on his feet. In the eighth, Provodnikov dropped Popoca with a counter right hand to the head. Popoca was able to get up, but Provodnikov landed a barrage of punches until referee Pat Russell stopped the bout at 2:16.

Lightweight contender Marvin Quintero stopped late sub Juan Santiago (13-7-1, 8 KO’s) in the third round of a scheduled 10 round bout. After an even first round, Quintero (22-3, 18 KO’s) began to land vicious shots to the head. Santiago, who took the fight on four days notice, tried to mount an offense, but was not able to in the second round. Quintero stunned Santiago to start the third round, pinning him against the ropes until referee Thomas Taylor stopped the bout at 12 seconds.

Light heavyweights Mike Gavronski and Tyrell Hendrix fought to a crowd-pleasing four round majority decision draw. Both fighters scored a knockdown in the first round, ironically with right hands to the head. Hendrix (5-1-2, 2 KO’s) battered Gavronski in the second, but Gavronski (2-0-1, 2 KO’s) came on in the third. Gavronski started well in the fourth, but tired late in the round, allowing Hendrix to land right hands to the head. One judge scored the bout 40-36 for Hendrix, but was overruled by the other two judges, who had it scored 38-38.

Heavyweight Danny Gonzalez (2-1, 1 KO) won a foul-filled and sloppy four unanimous decision over Derek Williams, who was making his professional debut. The only highlights were a knockdown that Gonzalez scored in the second round and the wild swings and misses from both fighters. All three judges scored the bout 39-36 in favor of Gonzalez.

Sindi Amador remained unbeaten with a four round unanimous decision over Katerina De La Cruz. Amador (3-0) was the busier and more aggressive fighter of the two. Delacruz (2-7-1) was game, but Amador landed the more effective punches. Amador won by scores of 40-36, 40-36, and 39-37.

Welterweight Dashon Johnson stopped Willie Walton in the first round of a scheduled six round bout. Johnson (12-4-3, 4 KO’s) dropped Walton with a straight right hand to the head. Walton (4-4, 4 KO’s) stood up on wobbly legs and was met by a barrage of punches from Johnson. Referee Pat Russell stepped in to stop the bout at 1:18, just as Walton fell to the canvas.

Lightweight Danny Ruiz was successful in his professional debut, winning a four round unanimous decision over William Fisher. Ruiz dropped Fisher in the second round, but Fisher (0-3) came back to stun Ruiz later in the round. Fisher was game, but Ruiz landed the more effective punches down the stretch. Ruiz won on all three judges’ scorecards, 40-35, 39-36, and 38-37.

In the walkout bout of the evening, heavyweight David Johnson (5-21-8) added another draw to his record with a four round majority decision draw against Garret Simon (5-0-1, 4 KO’s). One judge scored the bout 40-36 in favor of Simon, while the other two judges scored the bout 38-38.
