The super welterweight elimination bout between contenders Vanes Martirosyan and Saul Roman will now take place on June 4th at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told Fightnews.com on Tuesday afternoon. “We had to push the fight back from April 23rd to June 4th because Vanes had a case of the flu recently,” said Arum. The Martirosyan-Roman bout was originally scheduled to take place at the WinStar Casino in Thackerville, OK. The bout was to headline a “Top Rank Live” card, but was pushed back five weeks due to Martirosyan’s illness.
Martirosyan, (29-0, 18 KO’s) from Glendale, CA, returned to the ring last month in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, knocking out Bladimir Hernandez in the second round. It was his first fight in nine months since Martirosyan won a 10 round unanimous decision over Joe Greene at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, NY.
Roman, (34-8, 29 KO’s) from Tijuana, Baja California, stopped Michael Medina in the second round in his last fight in January.
Arum also told Fightnews that the Martirosyan-Roman fight will not be televised in its entirety on HBO, but will be shown live on foreign television.
