WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (20-0, 16 KOs) dropped Jorge Solis (40-3-2, 29 KOs) five times in four rounds on Saturday night in front of a 3000+ sold out Ballroom at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Solis was down twice in round two, once in round three and twice in round four before referee David Fields waved it off. Time was 1:31.
Featherweight Miguel Angel “Mikey” Garcia (25-0, 21 KOs) scored a one-sided ten round beat down of previously unbeaten Matt Remillard (23-1, 13 KOs) in a clash for the NABF and NABO titles. Garcia dropped Remillard twice in round nine and again in the tenth. The fight was stopped after round ten.
In a clash of unbeaten super bantamweights, USBA titleholder Teon Kennedy (17-0-1, 7 KOs) won a hard fought twelve round unanimous decision over Jorge Diaz (15-1, 9 KOs). Kennedy dropped Diaz in rounds two and three and went onto a 115-111, 118-109, 117-109 victory to retain his belt.
Heavyweight Tommy Zbikowski (3-0, 2 KOs) had his toughest outing to date, winning a four round unanimous decision over Caleb Grummet (0-1-1). Scores were 39-36, 39-36, 38-37. Grummet was deducted a point for a low blow in round three that cost him a draw on one of the cards.
Super welterweight Glen Tapia (9-0, 6 KOs) dropped Eberto Medina (5-6, 1 KO) in round three en route to a six round 60-52, 60-53, 59-54 unanimous decision.
Miguel “No Fear” Cartejena (1-0) was impressive in his pro debut, scoring a unanimous decision over Omar Gonzales (2-6) in a four round super bantamweight bout. Scores were 40-36 across the board.
Camilo Perez (2-0, 2 KOs) dropped Desi Williams (0-2) twice in the opening round, stopping him when Williams failed to beat the count after the second knockdown. The end came at 3:00 of the first round of a scheduled four round featherweight bout.
