Union Boxing Promotion, a Donetsk-based Ukrainian promotional company, which is governed by Yuri Ruban and his chief assistant Dmitry Yeliseev, plans a huge boxing comeback on Aug. 20 in their thriving hometown. Several well-developed local fighters will take their positions in the event labeled “Pro Boxing Show IX”, which will be timed to the 20th anniversary of the state’s independence and corresponding holidays and celebrations.
The main event will see 33-year old WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (31-0, 20 KOs) in a previously announced optional defense of his title against 37-year old Venezuelan veteran and WBA #11 Marco Antonio Avendano (30-7-1, 22 KOs). Senchenko will conduct the fourth major title fight in his hometown (following decisions over Yuri Nuzhnenko, Motoki Sasaki and Charlie Jose Navarro), while his opponent makes his second attempt at the world championship following a wide decision loss to Nobuhiro Ishida in Japan in 2009. Avendano is best known for his second-round kayo of heralded Argentinean Sebastian Andres Lujan in 2005.
Two more WBA eliminators in various weight classes will be arranged on the same card. WBA #4 super middleweight boxer-puncher Stas Kashtanov (28-0, 15 KOs), 26, and WBA #7 junior welterweight stocky slugger Vladimir Kravets (24-0, 15 KOs), 29, will try their luck against yet to be identified opponents. More classy boxers will fill in the undercard of the show; one bout will be designated for the European title.
