Sergio Martinez-Alfredo Angulo Discussed For July 9

15 Mar 2011 22:28       hits 3902 Print version

According to Argentine reporter Javier Santorez, one possible fight being explored for middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (47-2, 26KOs), is a July 9 clash with tough junior middleweight Alfredo Angulo (19-1, 16KOs). Martinez knocked out WBO 154-pound champion Sergiy Dzinziruk in eight rounds last Saturday at Foxwoods Resort and Casino.

Is the fight really possible based on the past history and the current events? Martinez's promoter Lou DiBella likes the fight, but he tried to make this match last year, and Angulo turned down an offer of $750,000 dollars - and countered with a $1 million dollar demand.

And, Angulo has been inactive since last July's first round knockout of Joachim Alcine, because the boxer is having visa issues. He's currently unable to enter the United States and HBO has refused to televise the boxer until he clears up the visa dispute.
