In a clash of super-sized heavyweights, 6’7 Michael Grant (47-4, 35 KOs) scored an explosive third round one-punch knockout over 6’9 Tye Fields (45-3, 41 KOs) on Friday night at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Both fighters were rocked by big shots in round two. Grant leveled Fields with a monster right hand in round three. Time was 1:06.
Former two-division world champion Joel Casamayor (38-5-1, 22 KOs) took a close ten round split decision over late sub Manuel Leyva (20-2, 12 KOs). Casamayor dropped Leyva with a body shot in round five and went on to win by scores of 97-92, 96-93 on two cards. Leyva was up 95-94 on the third card.
Cruiserweight Aaron Williams (21-3-1, 14 KOs) annihilated Shane Steele (7-4, 5 KOs) in one brutal round. Referee Joe Cortez waved it off after two knockdowns. Time was 2:27.
Unheralded 294lb heavyweight Alvaro Morales (6-8-6, 0 KOs) ruined the pro debut of Olympian Razvan Cojanu, who represented Romania at the 2008 Beijing Games. Scores were 39-37, 39-37, 38-38, adding up to a four round majority nod for Morales.
