Kessler vs Stieglitz in The Works For June Clash

27 Jan 2011 13:31       hits 2182 Print version

Sauerland Event, the promotional company that represents Mikkel Kessler (43-2, 32KOs), has confirmed that a huge offer has been sent to WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (39-2, 23KOs) to face Kessler in a June title clash in Denmark. BT reports the offer was over three million Danish kroner.

Last year, Kessler left the Super Six tournament with an eye injury. He was experiencing blurred vision during training. Within 14 days, his eyes will be checked by specialists. If there are no problems found, Kessler plans to start sparring by March.

"We have sent the Stieglitz camp an offer to meet Kessler in Denmark in June," said Sauerland managing director Chris Meyer.

Kessler is very happy and hopes Stieglitz takes the fight.

"It's fantastic news. Stieglitz is a top fighter and a very strong opponent. I miss boxing like crazy and I can not wait to get back in the ring and continue where I left off against Carl Froch. The plan was to take a break and let eye injury fully heal. As soon as the doctors give me the OK, I will begin to spar again. Hopefully by March," says Kessler.
