In one of his most impressive performances, IBF middleweight champion Sebastian Sylvester (34-3-1, 16 KOs) successfully defended his title for the third time with a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision over #10 rated Mahir Oral (28-3-2, 11 KOs) on Saturday night at the Stadthalle in Rostock, Germany. Sylvester suffered a vertical cut over the right eye from a headbutt in round two, but he broke it open with a huge round four battering Oral around the ring with a sustained barrage of punches, but Oral weathered the storm. Another clear round for the champion in round five. Oral was dropped in round eight with some body shots and a left hook to the jaw. “The Hurrikan” put Oral down again in round nine and punished him further in the tenth. Another knockdown in round eleven, but Oral beat the count again and chose to continue. Scores were 117-107, 119-106, 117-107.
Unbeaten heavyweight Kubrat Pulev (9-0, 5 KOs) outpointed veteran Dominick Guinn (33-7-1, 22 KOs) over eight. Guinn got off to a good start but the bout slowed down after round two with neither fighter doing much. Pulev was a bit more active and that was enough for an 80-72, 80-72, 79-73 win.
WBC/WBA/WBO welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus (15-0, 3 KOs) scored a seventh round TKO over previously unbeaten Mikaela Lauren (6-1, 1 KOs). The bout was stopped at :40 after a series of unanswered blows. Another impressive performance for “The First Lady.”
