Have you had any recent offers for fights in the USA?
Yes, I am scheduled to fight Andre Ward on November 27 in the USA. It’s for the WBA super middleweight world championship.
Are you still focused on IBF Lucian Bute, who you boxed several years ago?
If the fight comes about, I definitely want another chance to fight Bute as I know that I can defeat him. But I am focused on winning the WBA belt now and if I win that, there will be more options for me.
In your most recent fight you were disqualified against Jean Paul Mendy in round one of an IBF eliminator in Las Vegas. Was it frustration that caused you to do this, can you give me your thoughts on this fight?
It wasn’t frustration. I knew I had hurt Mendy and had him in the corner. Even though he went low I couldn’t see his knee touching the canvas. The referee was standing too far away and should have been on top of the situation. If he had seen Mendy on his knee, he should have stepped in or spoken.
Australian 168 boxer Les Sherrington is rated in the IBF. He was offered to fight you but rejected that offer. Would you be interested in that fight? Would you be confident?
I never had a serious offer to fight him, but if the offer came I would consider it and I would be very confident of knocking Les Sherrington out.
Fellow Cameroon Australian based boxer Serge Yannick recently defeated IBF rated Joseph Keadgo. Would you be interested in that fight?
He is a young, up and coming fighter who needs to take his time. He also needs the right people behind him and he can become a successful fighter in the future. I am only interested in fighting the top fighters in the world who are established. Serge can get there, but it will take time.
You are now training with David Birchell. Has he helped improve your skill?
David has helped me a lot and we’re good friends. At this moment I am doing my own thing and will be working with an American trainer for my upcoming fight.
You have been chasing former WBA 168 champion Anthony Mundine. Do you think he will ever fight you?
If you look closely, mine and Mundine’s careers have taken two separate paths. I have been actively seeking and fighting the best fighters in the world and he hasn’t. If the Australian public want to watch me knock him out, then they should get behind the fight happening. Otherwise I am happy fighting to prove I am the best and not just talking about it. Mundine is too afraid of being knocked out by me.
