At the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, former light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek (42-1, 27 KOs) stepped in the ring with the biggest man in his entire career. The 6'2, 217-pound Adamek, had a few tough moments but managed to win a twelve round unanimous decision over the 6'7, 261-pound Michael Grant (46-4, 34 KOs). The scores were 117-111, 118-110 and 118-111.
Adamek's promoter, Kathy Duva of Main Events, said a date in November is the tentative target for the popular Pole's next fight. Adamek says the win over Grant is proof that he's ready to fight with anyone. He would like to fight the Klitschko brothers, Wladimir and Vitali. He may not get either based on the fight schedules. Wladimir defends his IBF/IBO/WBO titles against Sam Peter on September 11. WBC champion Vitali returns on October 16 against Shannon Briggs.
"I can fight with anybody, you know. I want the two champions, the brothers Klitschko. They're as tall as Mike. He's a strong man, and I'm glad that I could fight with him," said Adamek.
"Mike was a lot different because of his height. So I had to bring the action to him, and then go back outside. I couldn't hit him with as many punches as I could have with someone my size. I'm ready to fight anybody."
