Heavyweight Chris Arreola (29-2, 25 KOs) got back into the win column with a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision over Manuel Quezada (29-6, 18 KOs) on Friday night at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario. Arreola, who came in five-and-a-half pounds heavier than he did in his loss to Tomasz Adamek in April, was too big and too strong for Quezada as he controlled the first eight rounds, then floored Quezada twice in round nine. Quezada rallied a bit in the next few rounds, but was dropped again in the twelfth. Scores were 117-108, 118-107, 118-107. After the fight Arreola said he injured both hands.
In a tough, gritty crossroads welterweight fight, WBC #8 rated super lightweight and local favorite Josesito Lopez (27-3, 15 KOs) defeated Marvin Cordova (21-2-1, 11 KOs) over eight rounds by scores of 77-74, 78-73, 78-73. Cordova was deducted a point for a low blow by referee Pat Russell in round eight.
Bantamweight Michael Ruiz Jr. stopped Matthew Salazar in the second round of a scheduled four round bout. After controlling the first round, Ruiz (5-0, 2 KO’s) dropped Salazar with a counter left cross to the head. Salazar (1-2-1, 1 KO) got up, but was hurt by another left hand against the ropes. Referee Jerry Cantu administered an eight-count, but waved the fight over at 2:18.
