Vanes Martirosyan Blasts Sergiy Dzinzurik, 154-Pounders

12 Aug 2010 13:36       hits 5022 Print version

Undefeated junior middleweight Vanes Martirosyan spoke to BoxingScene.com after reading that WBO junior middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinzurik is trying to secure a fight with former welterweight champion Luis Collazo.

A furious Martirosyan said, " I want to know why he (Dzinzurik) is fighting a 147 pounder? These guys want to sit around and wait for Manny (Pacquiao) or for big money fights. They are only after money and they don't want prove that they are the best"

Martirosyan has been trying to land fights with big names such as Miguel Cotto, Paul Williams, and Sergiy Dzinzurik and so far has been unsuccessful getting any of those fights. "No one cares anymore. They just want to get paid. I remember that people were saying that I'm not ready and that (Kassim) Ouma did good against me in our fight. Okay then if that's true then it shouldn't be a problem for these guys to fight me since they say I'm not that good."

The Armenian feels that the best fighters aren't willing to prove that they are the best by fighting the best competition out there. "I don't get this guy (Dzinzurik). His manager was on BoxingScene calling me out and now they are fighting Collazo who is a welterweight? That's just bull. These champs are just trying to fight guys they know they can beat. I'm willing to fight any big names. I don't care if people don't think I can beat them. Isn't that how boxing is supposed to be?"

Martirosyan took it a step further when he told BoxingScene about a sparring session he had with Dzinurzik when the WBO champion was training for Daniel Dawson whi he fought in May. "If Dzinzurik won't fight me its because he got his ass kicked by me in sparing before his last fight. He didn't even come back to spar me again. He knows what will happen if he fights me. Ask anybody who was at Wild Card Gym that day and they will tell you I was busting him up. I even cut him. If it was a fight (and sparring) I would have knocked him out. They didn't even finish the session. They stopped it after 4 rounds."

Martirosyan finished our conversation by saying, "I don't get why they call some of these guys world champs world when they are acting like chumps. I think I earned the right to fight one of the big names. I'm ranked by all the sanctioning bodies. I am ranked #4 by the WBA, #3 by the WBO, #5 by the IBF and #6 by WBC and no one has the balls to fight me. I know there are people who think I'm not that good. Well then what's the problem? I'm not that good but still you don't have the balls to fight me?"
