In a shocker, Cornelius ‘K9’ Bundrage (30-4, 18 KOs) became the IBF Junior Middleweight Champion in stopping Cory “The Next Generation” Spinks (37-6, 11KOs) at 1:28 in the 5th round. The new champion battered Spinks around the ring for the majority of the contest. “K9” began the fight with constant pressure and never let off the gas in dispatching the former champ. Early in the 5th round, Spinks spun out of a corner and attempted to elude Bundrage, but slipped and and fell thru ropes to the apron. Upon resumption of the round, Bundrage moved forward and began to batter Spinks eventually knocking him down. At the count of nine, Spinks rose to his feet and when Referee Mark Nelson motioned to Spinks to follow him. The referee, not pleased with Spinks’ look, waved his arms, bringing the fight to a somewhat controversial conclusion.
