John Murray will defend his EBU lightweight title here in Manchester on Saturday the 25th of September against the Ukraine’s Andriy Kudriavtsev. Boxingscene’s sources claim that the fight will be promoted by Matchroom, who promoted Murray’s European title win over Gary Buckland back in May.

Murray, 25, has been repeatedly compared to Ricky Hatton, with the Mancunian’s pressuring style, intense body punching and fighting drive reminiscent of ‘The Hitman’. Murray, 29-0 (17), is moving up the world rankings and is reaping the rewards of going the traditional route; he has won the Lonsdale belt outright and hopes to use his European mandatory as a route to one of the 135lb world title belts.

Andriy is 33-7 (14) and has won two fights since a points reverse to former European champion Anthony Mezaache in July of last year; the 33-year-old last fought in February, winning on points over eight rounds against Dmytro Bohachuk.
