Former champ Johnny Tapia (57-5-2, 29 KOs) will be rematching former crosstown nemesis Frankie Archuleta (26-7-1, 14 KOs) on June 12, when the two fight a rubber match at the Ohkay Casino in Espanola, N.M. The line-up also includes Joaquin Zamora (18-2-1, 12 KOs), Carlos “El Gallo” Sanchez (5-1, 2 KOs), Arturo Crespin (5-1, 2 KOs), Amanda Crespin (2-2-1) and debuting Jazzma Hogue. Team Tapia will also be staging a grand opening for their new gym in Albuquerque on Tuesday.
Unbeaten Albuquerque hopeful Archie Ray Marquez (10-0, 7 KOs) has pulled out of his ShoBox-televised fight May 14 at the Chumash in Santa Ynez, Calif. Though a press release stated Marquez suffered an injury, he was arrested on May 6 for domestic battery and has since been release on bail. A ShoBox card is in the works for June 25 in Albuquerque.
