“Good thing it’s not raining more. Although I could show everybody my newly acquired during training camp in Houston experience in long distance swimming,” said Tomasz Adamek (40-1, 28 KOs), when he and Chris Arreola (28-1, 25 KOs) arrived for a scheduled open workout in downtown Los Angeles. Instead of putting on gloves and trying NOT to show media and the other team’s “spies” anything they actually want to do this coming Saturday in Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, both heavyweights patiently answered reporters’ questions at the ESPNZone.

“How will you fight Arreola?” was the number one question to Adamek, obviously related to the perceived punching power difference between those two heavyweights. Adamek never answered, helped by his trainer Roger Bloodworth, who always had to jump in and say to reporters: “You have to wait until Saturday to know.”

The only time the Polish fighter came close to answering the question was when he said: “Can you say “speed” three times very fast? This will be answer for Arreola. One of my strengths is also the quick way I can adapt. I can change the way I’m fighting depending what’s needed. What’s Arreola is bringing to the table. I can change from round to round, depending what’s the best for me and worst for Chris. How do you prepare for that?” – said Adamek, before the obligatory “in front of Earvin “Magic” Johnson statute” picture.

When it was all over, man who smiled the most was his trainer Roger Bloodworth, always one of the most protective trainers in the boxing world. “This is time for concentration, quiet time and gathering strength. This is what’s should be a priority for every fighter. We are entering a crucial time when the most important thing is to prepare yourself mentally for the fight and not necessarily answer the same questions 10 times a day,” said Bloodworth.

“I like Chris; he looks and sounds as a great kind of guy. There’s nothing personal between us, he just stands in my way to be first boxer ever who will win titles in light heavyweight, cruiserweight and heavyweight division. It just happens that we want the same thing – the world championship. You know what? Maybe this makes this personal after all,” said Adamek.

“I’m the big man in this fight and I’m going to bring it to him,” promised Arreola. “I’m sure Adamek is going to stick-and-move, which is what he has done since he’s moved up from light heavyweight and cruiserweight. I’d be pleasantly shocked but happy if he tried to stand and fight and exchange with me.

“But he’s never faced a guy that hits like me. You can’t compare how he did against Jason Estrada with how he might do against me because Estrada can’t punch. He got away with things against Estrada that he definitely will not be able to get away with against me. No way is Adamek accustomed to fighting a true heavyweight like me. He’ll feel my power and get hit like he’s never been hit before.”
