WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (38-2, 23 KOs) retained his world title with a hard fought twelve round unanimous decision over the previously unbeaten and very game WBO #2 rated Eduard “Eddy” Gutknecht (18-1, 7 KOs) on Saturday night at the Bordelandhalle in Magdeburg, Germany. After a rousing start, Stieglitz amped up the pressure and Gutknecht responded, resulting in some excellent exchanges. As the bout progressed, however, the champion’s pressure began to take its toll as Stieglitz clearly forged ahead, although the challenger still had his moments. Both were still giving their all in the championship rounds with Stieglitz trying hard for the late KO. In the end, Stieglitz prevailed by scores of 119-108, 117-111, 117-110. Great fight!
