Veteran heavyweight Jason Gavern (19-7-3, 8 KOs) shockingly ended the 18-fight win streak of WBC #8 rated Manny “El Toro” Quezada (29-5-1, 18 KOs) with a ten split decision on Thursday night at the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino in Lemoore, California. Quezada was cut by an accidental headbutt in round two and Gavern as the uncut fighter was deducted one point per WBC rules. Gavern decked Quezada with a straight left in round six (incorrectly ruled a slip) and went on to win a close fight by scores of 95-94 on two cards. Quezada was up 95-94 on the third card. With the victory, Garvern claimed Quezada’a WBC CABOFE belt.
