WBA #6 Russian Alexander Ustinov (now 20-0, 16 KOs) looked sluggish and inconsistent against American veteran Ed Mahone (24-10-2, 23 KOs) yet pounded out another stoppage victory, when Mahone’s corner threw in a towel at the beginning of the fourth round. Giant Ustinov slowly stalked the badly faded ex-WBO title challenger across the ring but despite a considerable amount of damage, dealt to his opponent, the Minsk citizen was unable to either deck him nor even to rock him badly through the first three rounds. However, Mahone was too fatigued to maintain his guard, which prompted his corner to stop this action for good. Mahone is now 3-9 since losing via TKO 3 to Vitali Klitschko in 1999. Notably, witnesses booed badly after the white towel was noticed flying over the ropes.
