He would be extremely mistaken to come into this fight unprepared. I do not think he would do that. I don't think he even thinks it will be an easy fight. One thing I have learned from being in his camp is that he is very professional, he takes everything seriously, every fight seriously and he goes into the fight prepared. I think he is going to do the same thing this time...if he is not prepared, it is going to be a long night for him. Trust me," stated heavyweight contender Eddie Chambers as he talked about Saturday's clash when he takes on IBF & WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. Check it out!
BTT: Hey Eddie. How is it going?
EC: Good.
BTT: Let's jump right in. I know you are a busy man. In your last fight, you may have been in the best shape of your career, so going into the biggest fight of your career, should we expect you to be in even better shape?
EC: There is no doubt. I have been working in camp for close to 6 weeks. I came into camp actually a few pounds more than my fight weight. I am already down lower than my last fight, so there is really no question.
BTT: Around what weight should we expect you?
EC: Wel, I will probably be the same weightL; maybe a little less. If I were to guess, probably like 207.
BTT: Did you do anything special or different in preparation for this fight?
EC: I picked up the intensity from the last time I was in camp, plus a few other things that were working for a tall guy; doing more with my legs, moving a lot more, and adding more dimensions to my game as far as movement. Not saying that I did not do enough movement the last time, but I do not think so. I felt I was standing in front of him a little too much, and when I say him, I mean Dimitrenko, therefore, allowing punches to land, not saying flush, but maybe even brushed off or whatever. I just gave him too many opportunities for offense and I cannot do that with Klitschko. Standing in front of Klitschko is almost like a death sentence and I do not want to put myself in that position.
BTT: How was your sparring while preparing for this fight?
EC: It was great! Actually, I had one of the same guys I had for my last fight. He is very tall, around 6'11', close to 7 feet tall. He can move and box a little bit. He even came in better shape than the last time. There was also a few other guys that came in; tall guys with speed that throw a decent amount of punches and that box pretty well from the outside.
BTT: Many fans are bothered by the fact that your fight will not be televised. Do you feel it is a case of the networks being cheap or do you feel it is Wladimir's style and past level of opposition, or a mixture of both?
EC: I think it is a mixture of them thinking I will not be a quality opponent and how easy he handles his competition in the past. Also, that's his style. A lot of times, he plays it safe; he doesn't really take a lot of chances, especially if he feels it is a big challenge. Then he really plays it safe because he doesn't want to get pawed and he just wants to win. That, in itself, is one issue. Besides that, they do not think I am going to go in there and do anything and they do not think I stand a chance or will only last a few rounds. It looks to them like a recipe for wasting money and an opportunity to put on show when there are other things they think that they can put their focus in and maybe it would be a better show. All in all, I think it's a combination of his style not being exciting enough and them thinking I am not a worthy enough challenge to him.
BTT: You mentioned during an appearance on OnThEGRiND that early in your career, you had done some sparring with Wladimir. There were rumors circulating that he was pushing you around during these sessions. Do you feel, because of these sessions, he may take you lightly while preparing for this fight?
EC: I don't think so. Whoever said he was pushing me around was sadly mistaken. That was one thing that didn't happen. Although it is not even worth elaborating on, it was a situation, at that time, I was a young guy not doing nearly what I am doing at this particular time. I just do not think that him being a pro fighter and knowing that it's a big fight, even though it is not as big of a fight as others, it is still a big fight and a big opportunity for me, so who knows what I am going to bring to the table that night? If he thinks it is going to be an easy fight, maybe I could come up with this crazy strength and motivation to become the Heavyweight Champion of the World, which, to me, is one of the greatest honors in this sport obviously. To me, he would be extremely mistaken to come into this fight unprepared. I do not think he would do that. I don't think he even thinks it will be an easy fight. One thing I have learned from being in his camp is that he is very professional, he takes everything seriously, every fight seriously and he goes into the fight prepared. I think he is going to do the same thing this time.
BTT: Recently, the Klitschko brothers were publicly arguing over who gets to fight David Haye first. How dangerous do you feel it is for Wladimir to look past you onward to David Haye?
EC: You know what? I do not even care. I don't even care what they do as far as their argument over who gets David Haye first because he has a challenge coming up that, you know, is more than what he can expect. I heard a few things, one thing here, one thing there, about him [Wladimir] not having a great camp; then hearing he is having a great camp there. Then hearing they are overlooking me here, and other false information I hear is I am a better challenge than other guys. It doesn't make a difference with what is said, what they argue over, or what they mean because come fight night, they are not going to be able to fight for each other. Only one can fight and get in that ring and take the challenge. Let me tell you, if he is not prepared, it is going to be a long night for him. Trust me!
BTT: Eddie, you have worked your way to a title shot since suffering your first lost. You have went up a level of opposition almost every fight since to earn yourself a title shot. Does it bother you when a fighter like Albert Sosnowski gets a shot at WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko without even so much as an eliminator?
EC: For one, I am a tough fight for no money. He can go get a fight with Sosnowski in the ring, who he knows will be a very easy fight that will probably only go 5 rounds. Not that I would be overlooking him, because I do not know, he may step his game up, or he can do a lot of things, so he can improve, so I am not going to say you should not overlook him. Though they take fights they feel they should win on an easy scale, and to pass over guys like me, that are going to be a tough fight, no money, and no recognition. It is a lose/lose for them, unless I work my way to the top. Why fight a guy like me, who is high risk and little reward, just to make a few fans happy? Not all fans, but some fans.
BTT: Well Eddie, I don't want to hold you up for too long. I know you have to prepare for the big fight coming up on Saturday against Wladimir Klitschko for the IBF/WBO/IBO Heavyweight Championships. Is there anything you want to say to your fans before I let you go?
EC: To all my fans, for one, I would like to thank you for sticking behind me through good times and bad. Also, I hope that you guys tune into my fight on Klitschko.com.
BTT: Good luck Eddie. The U.S. fight fans are behind you!
EC: Thank you
