Popular, hard-hitting Vic “The Raging Bull” Darchinyan (34-2-1, 27 KOs) successfully defended his WBC/WBA super flyweight crowns with a hard fought twelve round unanimous decision over Rodrigo “Gato” Guerrero (13-2-1, 9 KOs) on Saturday night in the main event on a special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation at The Show at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Aqua Caliente, California. Guerrero was competitive early, but after that it was a brutal display by Darchinyan, who battered Guerrero but couldn’t put the game challenger on the deck. Scores were 118-110, 117-111, 120-108.

Lightweight Lenny Zappavigna (23-0, 15 KO’s) won a hard-fought 12 round unanimous decision over Fernando Angulo (22-7, 14 KO’s). After the bout began with clenches in the first half of the fight, both fighters had their moments as they traded heavy shots. Zappavigna was cut over his right eye, which gave him problems as blood seeped into his eye. Angulo was deducted a point in the ninth round for hitting on the break. Angulo pressed the action in the second half of the fight, but Zappavigna finished the bout strong, staying on the outside and landing the more effective punches. All three judges had Zappavigna winning by scores of 116-111, 116-111, and 114-113. With the victory, Zappavigna wins the vacant IBO 135-pound title.

Lightweight Art Hovanessian (11-0-1, 6 KO’s) remained unbeaten with a fifth round stoppage victory over Hensley Stratchan. Hovanessian dropped Stratchan with a right hand to the head in the first round and dominated the action throughout the bout. Stratchan (5-7-1, 3 KO’s), who fought just nine days, was being punished along the ropes in the fifth round and motioned to referee Jack Reiss that he was not able to continue. The bout was waved off at 1:45.

Welterweight Michael Anderson (5-0-1, 3 KO’s) stopped Anthony McDavitt in the first round of a scheduled four round bout. Anderson dropped McDavitt (1-2) with a short right hand to the head and finished him with a left hook to the head. Referee Raul Caiz, Sr. waved the bout over after the second knockdown at 1:13.

In an upset, wild-swinging Heavyweight Brent Urban (5-2, 4 KO’s) stopped previously-unbeaten Emad Ali (5-1, 3 KO’s) in the first round of a scheduled six round bout. Urban hurt Ali with a left uppercut to the head, backing Ali up against the ropes. Referee Jack Reiss administered an eight-count as the ropes held Ali up, but stopped the bout at 1:25 when Ali did not respond to Reiss’ verbal commands. Ali vehemently protested the stoppage.

Super Bantamweights Johnathan Arrellano (4-0-1, 1 KO) and Danny Pantoja (0-2-2) fought to an entertaining four round majority decision draw. The more-polished Arrellano was busier, but Pantoja finished the bout strong, particularly in the final round. One judge scored the bout 40-36 for Arrellano, while the remaining two judges scored the bout 38-38.

In a battle of female fighters from Albuquerque, Junior Lightweight Nohime Dennison (3-1) won a six round unanimous decision over Jessica Sanchez (1-2-2). Dennison got the nod with scores of 60-53, 60-53, and 58-55.
