Sources close to the information have informed us that former jr. middleweight champion Winky Wright is considering leaving Golden Boy Promotions in order to sign with Top Rank Promotions. Wright, who last fought in April of 2009, is apparently unhappy with the inability of Golden Boy Promotions to secure him a fight and has decided to take his career in a different direction. The move would allow him to finally make his return to the ring as early as April or June, when Top Rank stages their next two major events featuring Kelly Pavlik vs. Sergio Martinez and Miguel Cotto vs. Yuri Foreman.
Assuming all goes well in his return bout, Wright will then turn his attention to middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, who is also promoted by Top Rank. In fact, given that Miguel Cotto is planning his own move up in weight, fans should not be surprised if the former jr. middleweight champion also makes a return to the 154-pound division in the near future for a potential showdown with the Puerto Rican superstar.
Phone calls to Wright's representatives and Top Rank have yet to be returned.
