If WBO bantamweight champion Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel (39-2-2, 29 KOs) defeats Filipino Ciso Morales (14-0, 8 KOs) on Saturday night, his next bout could be a unification showdown with long time WBC bantamweight king Hosumi Hasegawa in mid-April. The 30-year-old Montiel arrived Monday in Las Vegas with his father and trainer Manuel and his brothers Peter and Edward. “My primary goal is to defeat Ciso Morales on Saturday and then I want to face WBC champion Hosumi Hasegawa,” said Montiel from his hotel room at the Las Vegas Hilton. “It would be a big fight and I would love to have the WBC belt.” Hasegawa has defended his WBC belt ten times, most recently knocking out Alvaro Perez. Montiel isn’t looking past Morales however. “It’s clear to me that in the ring there are no easy opponents and I intensely prepared to win this Saturday at the Hilton. We are ready.”
