Carl Froch Bends, Agrees To Kessler Fight in Herning

4 Feb 2010 00:06       hits 4324 Print version

The venue battle is over, WBC champion Carl Froch has agreed to face Mikkel Kessler in Herning, Denmark on April 17. For the last few weeks there was an ongoing dispute over the venue. Froch wanted the fight to take place in Copenhagan because the location would be easier, in terms of travel, for his Nottingham fans. After going back and forth with Sauerland Event, Froch agreed to face Kessler in Herning.

"A ring is a ring to me, no matter where myself and Mikkel fight, the outcome will be the same. But my stance on the venue location was nothing to do with ego, or to create aggro for Sauerland – as he is a decent guy - it was to assist my fans to get over to Denmark to support me," Froch told livefight.com.

"I’ve boxed in Copenhagen and loved the place and appreciated that with Copenhagen being Kessler’s home town, it would be a no brainer to forecast the fight being there. As a result of that, a fair amount of British boxing fans have already gone out and bought flights to Copenhagen. So that was the point i was trying to underline with calls for it to be in Copenhagen. Times are tough and I didn’t want these guys to have to travel hours cross-country to get to Herning."
