It’s official. Ricky Hatton is coming back to boxing – as a fighter. After months of speculation, Hatton officially announced his return on Wednesday. He plans to start training in February for a tentative return in the next few months.

No opponent has been set - but Hatton mentioned IBF junior welterweight champion Juan Urango as a possibility. Hatton won a twelve round decision over Urango in January 2007.

"We're looking at the IBF champion Juan Urango, who I've already fought and beaten," Hatton said.

When reached for comment, Urango’s co-promoter Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing was ecstatic. Before Urango can count on a Hatton rematch, he must first get past undefeated WBC champion Devon Alexander on March 6.

“We’re already committed to fighting Devon Alexander. After Juan knocks out Devon Alexander, we would love to take the rematch with Hatton. That’s the fight he’s wanted for the last two years,” Margules said to BoxingScene.com.

“I heard he was coming back at 147 and if he’s come back at 147 - we’ll fight him at 147. The reason we lost the first time is because we were too inexperienced. That fight can happen [with Hatton], especially if we have two belts. We’d love that fight.”
