Albert “The Dragon” Sosnowski (45-2-1, 27 KOs) is a new European (EBU) heavyweight champion after a workmanlike tactical decision over Italian veteran Paolo Vidoz (26-7, 15 KOs) on Friday night at the famous York Hall in London, England. Sosnowski, who was coming off a memorable draw against Francesco Pianeta and a destruction of Danny Williams, was the busier and quicker pugilist throughout the whole contest, avoiding the slow blows of the Italian plodder and connecting a lot with light but frequent punches from the outside. Vidoz, who seemingly couldn’t avoid another opportunity to fight for the EBU belt (his fifth consecutive failure in European title contests) showed some poise in the opening rounds but slowed down and badly faded down the stretch. Sosnowski was close finishing the job in rounds five and six, but Vidoz survived the fierce onslaught and delivered some heat later on, which was clearly not enough. The official scores were 120-108, 119-109 and 117-111 – for Sosnowski. Fightnews filled the gap with a 118-110 tally.

In a stunner, rugged and raw but ultimately tough Ghanaian Charles Adamu (17-4, 12 KOs) got an early Christmas gift with a surprising split decision over British Carl Dilks (13-2, 4 KOs) in a contest for the vacant Commonwealth super middleweight title. Dilks controlled the first round but then Adamu came big in rounds two and three with his wild punches and higher rate of activity. He didn’t score any clean shots, however, though showing some sound defensive skills on his way out. In the fourth stanza, the fight saw a considerable turnaround as Dilks had finally adjusted to Adamu’s dangerous aggression and started to tag him with well-timed blows and wise jabbing. Rounds five and six were also in his favor. The African fighter got some accolades in the next two rounds but Dilks himself caught the second wind down the stretch and ended the contest in style, throwing less but landing more clean punches. Fightnews saw it 117-112 – for Dilks. Judges voted otherwise: 116-113 and 115-113 – for Charles Adamu and 113-115 – for Dilks. Sky Sports’ Glen McCrory scorecard was 116-112 – for the local fighter.
