In Berne, Switzerland heavyweight prospect Alexander Ustinov (19-0-0, 15 ÊÎs) who fights for «K2 East Promotions» decisioned famous American boxer Monte Barrett (34-9-0, 20 ÊÎs) after 12 rounds.
Ustinov vs. Barrett headlined the undercard of Vitali Klitschko – Kevin Johnson title fight for Vitali’s WBC heavyweight belt.
In the opening stanza Ustinov managed to drop Barrett with a huge right. However, in round 2 the American created a few tense moments when he landed several wild right swings and could more or less equalize the fight.
In round 10 Barrett went down to the canvas again after Ustinov’s stiff jab but the referee did not count it a knockdown.
By the championship rounds Barrett looked tired and started to survive in the ring. Ustinov was the aggressor but boxed at a medium pace – obviously he did not look for knockout win.
The final judges’ scores were 118-109, 117-110 and 116-112. Thus Ustinov retained his EBA (European Boxing Association) heavyweight belt.
