Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev, 4-0, got a surprisingly tough fight against experienced American Zach Page last time out and got a good learning fight. He has accepted to face Oleg Platov, 28-1-0-1, next.
Platov have on his side not said yes yet but is despite a glossly looking record in need of a good, convincing win. 2009 was spent waiting for a fight against Cengiz Koc that never materialized in what would have been an internal eliminator.
Pulev is 28 going on 29 and spent many years in the Bulgarian military and was unable to turn pro until now. He have the looks of a genuine star but may have left it too late. The plan from Sauerland is to move Kubrat fast, as fast as they did with Sven Ottke but heavyweight boxing differs from other weight divisions and Pulev may need more time.
Platov can test Kubrat but isn´t likely to hold up when Pulev gets going.
