Kostya Tszyu: "I was Destined To Lose To Ricky Hatton"

28 Nov 2009 17:30       hits 7017 Print version

Legendary Kostya Tszyu visited Kazakhstan where he remembered his past in the interview to the Prosport. The former light welterweight champion told that before his bouts he often had to lose up to 20 kilos and regretted that he had never moved to the upper divisions.

“For 3-4 months it was hellish work everyday, - says Tszyu. – Often I caught myself thinking 'enough, it’s time to quit.' But the boxing has always been everything for me. I was able to achieve things I’m proud of because of boxing. Unfortunately I had never moved up the division, though I really wanted it. Of course it would have been an interesting challenge for me”.

Tszyu also recalled his last bout against Ricky Hatton where his trainer decided to stop the fight. “If the trainer made the decision, it was right, - said the Russian. – "He knew better. And however hard it was for me, and believe me it was very hard, the decision had been taken. There is such a thing as destiny – probably, but it was destined to be that way."

Finally boxer told that lately he spends more time at his homeland, though at present he doesn’t plan to leave Australia where he lives with his family. “By the way, I have a rule – at home we speak only in Russian. If somebody asks me something in English at home, I don’t answer. That way my kids can learn their native language”, - explained Tszyu.
