Stieglitz ready for Miranda

27 Nov 2009 17:01       hits 2549 Print version

WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (36-2, 22 KOs) is confident that he has the tools to defeat hard-punching Edison Miranda (33-4, 29 KOs) when they collide on January 9 at the Bördelandhalle in Magdeburg, Germany. “I’ve already had a look at Edison Miranda,” said Stieglitz at a Thursday press conference to announce the fight. “I already know how I can box him. He’s a strong man. I think we’ll have a thrilling fight. I’m already in top form, already at my fight weight, and could box immediately.”

Stieglitz’ trainer Torsten Schmitz added “We know that Miranda can punch very hard. Everyone could see that in the fight against Arthur Abraham. I think Robert and Miranda will have an action-packed fight.”

One advantage for Stieglitz will be the support of the fans. “It was a dream and a very big wish of mine that I could make my first world title defense in my hometown,” commented Stieglitz. “It worked out. This makes me happy and I hope for the support of the Magdeburg fans.”

Also on the card will be WBC/WIBF/WBO female featherweight champion Ina Menzer (25-0, 9 KOs) defending her belts against WIBF super featherweight champion Ramona Kühne (14-0, 3 KOs) in a clash of unbeatens.

“I am glad to be in Magdeburg,” commented Manzer. “I’ve already boxed twice here as a world champion. Basically I take every opponent seriously. With Ramona Kühne I will be especially careful, of course, I must pay attention like hell. She has already breathed the air as a world champion and performed very impressively in three different weight classes.”

“This will be a new weight class for me again because I’m now going down to a fourth weight class…featherweight!” said Kuhne, who has previously held belts in the junior welterweight, lightweight and super featherweight divisions. “Naturally that makes the fight against Ina Menzer special, but the three world championship belts alone are already enough of a challenge for me.”

Menzer trainer Michael Timm stated “Ina doesn’t like long breaks, so it’s good that her next title defense takes place immediately at the beginning of 2010. That way she continuously stays in training. Ramona will be another tough test for Ina. But there are no easy fights as a world champion.”

Kühne’s trainer Stephan Böstfleisch commented “I don’t have any stomachaches because of the lower fight weight. Ramona has prepared for this in the long term. And even Ina Menzer has two hands, two feet and a head. It all depends on who knows how to box better.”

The card is a co-promotion between Universum Box-Promotion and SES Boxing. Additional fights will be announced.
