Marquez: "My First Choice is Pacquiao, Then Ricky Hatton"

19 Nov 2009 18:00       hits 6312 Print version

Former three division champion Juan Manuel Marquez wants a third crack at WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. They fought to a controversial draw in 2004 and then Marquez lost a controversial split decision to Pacquiao in 2008. Marquez is being considered as a possible option for Pacquiao in 2010.

During a recent interview on a Mexican radio station, Marquez made it clear that a third bout with Pacquiao is the fight he wants. If, and only if, he can't get a fight with Pacquiao - he will consider a fight with Ricky Hatton. Pacquiao is slated to return on March 13. Marquez knows that Pacquiao's side will be negotiating with Floyd Mayweather Jr. but if that fight falls apart then he wants to step in.

"The first choice for me is Manny Pacquiao, but I know they are going to negotiate with Mayweather. But if it doesn't happen, then I want a fight with him. If the [Pacquiao] fight doesn't happen, I will consider a possible bid to go to England to fight against Ricky Hatton, and then a third fight with Manny could be even bigger," Marquez said.
