Chris Arreola's Foe May Come Down To Minto, Rossy

5 Nov 2009 10:08       hits 5572 Print version

BoxingScene.com has learned that heavyweight Chris Arreola will face either Derric Rossy (22-2, 12KOs) or Brian Minto (34-2, 21KOs) on December 5 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Contenders Michael Grant and Malik Scott have also been mentioned but the Rossy and Minto appear to be the two names at the top of the list. Anything can change at the last minute and HBO has to approve the selection. Paul Williams will clash with Sergio Martinez in a middleweight main event. HBO will televise both fights.

Just to clear something up; Arreola's recent WBC suspension for swearing in aftermath of his loss to Vitali Klitschko has nothing to do with his ability to fight. The suspension is more of a ratings freeze and blocks his ability to fight for the title for at least six months. As long as Klitschko is the champion the WBC is doing Arreola a favor. I still find it strange that Arreola is suspended for swearing while other fighters are given a pass for beating their girlfriends/wives, fighting in clubs, being deadbeat fathers, etc.
