Botha gets by Carrion

25 Oct 2009 05:12       hits 4286 Print version

41-year-old WBF heavyweight titleholder Francois Botha (48-4-2, 28 KOs) won an unpopular majority decision over 39-year-old former Cuban national team member Pedro Carrion (8-2, 6 KOs) on Saturday night at the Anhalt Arena in Dessau, Germany. Botha has difficultly at times with Carrion’s height and the bout resembled a sparring session as it proceeded at a slow, mostly uneventful pace. In the end, scores were 114-110, 115-115, 114-113. After the bout, Botha said he hurt his right hand in the first round.

Middleweights Kreshnik Qato (21-6, 4 KOs) and Fabio Liggieri (10-4, 2 KOs) not unsurprisingly went the full twelve, with WBF titlist Qato prevailing 115-113, 116-112, 116-112.
