Marquez Willing To Fight Ricky Hatton in Manchester

WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez has no problem traveling to Manchester to challenge junior welterweight Ricky Hatton, says Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya.

After suffering a decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr last Saturday in Las Vegas, Marquez is ready to get back in the mix by accepting another huge fight. He would like to fight Hatton at 140. The WBO recently made it known that Marquez will be required to defend his title against interim-champion Michael Katsidis in the near future. Hatton has yet to make a clear decision on his future in the ring. De La Hoya promotes Marquez, Hatton and Katsidis.

"There are many options. He can fight tons of guys. He can fight Hatton. He can fight Katsidis. He can fight a lot of guys. We'll just have to see what Marquez and Hatton want to do. Marquez has no problem traveling to Manchester to challenge Ricky Hatton. It will be a great fight. It will be one of those fights where whoever the winner is - is back. Back with a venegence. Back on top of the world and can go on fighting bigger fights and being on bigger events. I think it's a win-win for everyone so I think Marquez and Hatton really should consider doing that fight. It will be good for boxing and good for their careers," De La Hoya told BoxingScene.com's Luis Sandoval.
