Roach Not Exactly Happy With Pacquiao's Training Location

5 Sep 2009 10:34       hits 5310 Print version

Manny Pacquiao has made a decision to train at home. He plans to start his training camp at a location in Baguio, Philippines on September 17 or 18. After Pacquiao finishes up his media tour for the November 14 bout with Miguel Cotto, he plans to start training immediately. Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach wanted a quiet, secret location in Toluca, Mexico. He fears the constant visits from reporters and fans will distract Pacquiao in Baguio. Both Pacquiao and Roach agree that Cotto will be the toughest opponent that they ever had to deal with.

“I will just do the best that I can [in Baguio],” said Roach to the Manila Bulletin.

Roach will have to travel over to train Pacquiao in the Philippines. It also means that Roach will be unavailable to train many of his other fighters for their upcoming bouts, but that tends to happen when Roach's other pupils have bouts that are close to a Pacquiao date. They plans to travel to Roach's Wild Card gym near the end of their training camp to finish up.
