The Arturo Gatti saga continues. On July 11, Gatti was found dead by his wife Amanda Rodrigues at their rented condo in the resort town of Porto de Galinhas, Brazil. Authorities believed it was Rodrigues who strangled the fighter to death with a purse strap after he passed out from a night of drinking. Gatti was on vacation with his wife and their young son.
Several weeks later an autopsy ruled Gatti's death as a suicide. Few believe the suicide scenario and second autopsy was conducted by Gatti's family. The second autopsy did not rule out the possibility of murder. Rodrigues was released by Brazilian authorities after weeks of being detained and plans to sue the state of Pernambuco in Brazil for having her imprisoned for 18 days in a local jail and for telling reporters that she likely killed her husband.
Gatti's family are now preparing a big legal suit against Rodrigues. In the aftermath of Gatti's death, it was revealed that Gatti had changed his last will and testament, leaving his entire fortune to Rodrigues. The change was made three weeks before his death. Gatti left nothing to his family or his other child.
According to the National Post, the Gatti family filed documents at the Montreal Courthouse in an attempt to annul the boxer's will. They believe that Rodrigues manipulated Gatti into changing the will and leaving her with his entire multi-million dollar fortune.
A document filed by the Gatti family states that Rodrigues threatened to take their son and flee to Brazil if Arturo did not change the will and name her as the sole beneficiary of his estate. In his first will, Gatti left most of his estate to his mother.
