During the controversial ending to the Timothy Bradley-Nate Campbell world title fight on Saturday night, unbeaten Lamont Peterson stood at ringside taking in the situation. Peterson became the WBO interim titleholder when he stopped Willy Blain in the seventh round in April. Bradley is the WBO champion, which he won when he defeated Kendall Holt in a unification bout in the same month. Because of the victory, Peterson was lined up to be the mandatory challenger to face the winner between Bradley and Campbell. Peterson is hoping for the opportunity to fight for the title soon and not have to wait any longer.

“I really want this fight to happen as soon as possible (with Bradley),” said Peterson, whose younger brother Anthony fights as a lightweight.

Peterson (27-0, 13 KOs) has been fighting professionally for almost five years after a decorated amateur career, highlighted by his 2001 National Golden Gloves title.

Asked if there was a preference on whom he wanted to win between Bradley or Campbell, Peterson diplomatically said there was none.

“It doesn’t who would have won the fight. I feel my style matches up well with Timothy’s. Timothy throws more punches as you saw in the fight.”

Peterson took in all the action from ringside at the Agua Caliente Casino Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage, sitting next to Top Rank matchmaker Brad Goodman.

No doubt what Goodman saw will be relayed to Peterson’s promoter, Bob Arum. It will then be determined if a bout could be made and if the money is right for Top Rank and Gary Shaw and Thompson Boxing Promotions, both of whom promote Bradley.

“I really want the fight to happen. I really think I can beat Bradley.”
