Cayo defeats ex-champ Diaz

Unbeaten junior welterweight Victor Cayo (23-0, 14 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over former two-time lightweight world champion Julio Diaz (36-6, 26 KOs) on Friday night at the Seminole Hard Rock LIVE Arena in Hollywood, FL. The unothodox style of the quicker, younger Cayo, fighting with his hands held low, gave Diaz problems all night. Cayo rocked Diaz several times, and went on to win by scores of 97-93, 96-94, 98-92. Cayo dedicated the fight to his former trainer Rudy Pena who passed away earlier this week.

Heavyweight Derric Rossy (22-2, 12 KOs) easily boxed his way to a one-sided ten round unanimous decision over Carl Davis Drumond (26-2, 20 KOs). Rossy was in command all the way against Drumond, who was never able to mount much offense. Scores were 99-91 on all cards. Rossy took the bout on late notice. Disappointing performance for Drumond, who had challenged Ruslan Chagaev for the WBA world title in his previous fight.

In an off-TV fight, Cuban Olympian Luis Franco looked sharp as he won his pro debut by first round TKO against Leroy Padilla. Franco is trained by Orlando Cuellar.
